The Young Ensemble Mariengarden presents TIME PLAY in Vogelsang – a place that is itself part of the history of the perpetrators.
On the night of November 9th to 10th, 1938 synagogues were set on fire across Germany. Jewish shops and apartments were devastated, hundreds of people were murdered or driven to their deaths, and around 30,000 Jewish men were deported to concentration camps. The November pogroms mark the transition from exclusion to open violence – on a path that ended in Auschwitz.
88 years later, on the morning of November 9th, 2026, the Young Ensemble Mariengarden presents ZEITSPIEL in Vogelsang – at a place that itself belongs to the history of the perpetrators.
ZEITSPIEL tells the story of the girls' orchestra in the women's camp Auschwitz-Birkenau: of women and girls who had to play in order to survive. After performances in Paris, Düsseldorf, and Borken, this guest performance is a presentation of remembrance.
Since 2017, the Young Ensemble has been telling this story on stage. From a theater working group in Borken-Burlo, it has evolved into a semi-professional stage. The Young Ensemble is the former theater working group of the Mariengarden Gymnasium in Borken-Burlo.
