Resilience According to Kneipp

Holistic. Natural. Effective.

Sebastian Kneipp’s health philosophy takes a holistic approach: it strengthens the balance between body, mind, and spirit, thereby promoting long-term resilience. At its core are the five pillars of water, exercise, nutrition, medicinal plants, and a healthy lifestyle—together, they form the foundation for an active, mindful, and healthy life.

At the Kneipp spa town of Gemünd, this principle comes to life. Natural water treading on the steps of the Urft River offers a direct experience of the power of water. The classic Kneipp facilities in the spa park are currently being rebuilt following the 2021 flood and will once again be part of this offering in the future.

The other elements of the Kneipp approach can also be found in Schleiden: In thematically arranged herb beds—from the Garden of the Five Senses to the Hildegarten—the healing power of nature becomes tangible. The Hildegarten was initiated and is maintained with great volunteer dedication by Franziska and Wilhelm Wawer. Guided herb walks offer insights into “Nature’s Pharmacy” and impart knowledge that is useful in everyday life.

The landscape itself supports this holistic approach. The villages of the Eifel town of Schleiden, with their rustic charm, invite visitors to consciously slow down—whether on walks, short hikes, or while relaxing on sensory loungers with sweeping views of nature.

A special path to inner peace is the Schleiden Meditation Trail: Starting at Schleiden Castle, it leads through seven stations in a quiet, natural setting, creating space for reflection, mindfulness, and new perspectives.
