Oberhausen

Oberhausen has about 810 residents and is located in the Olef Valley, surrounded by the Schleiden Forest. Several streams—including the Rinkenbach, Holzbach, Scheidebach, and Hellesbach—flow into the Olef here and shape the town’s character.

The historic Zöllerplatz forms the center of the village. Half-timbered houses and the street “An der Ley” are protected as a historic district and give Oberhausen its distinctive, time-honored character.

The town’s history is closely tied to iron processing. Iron ore was already being processed here as early as the 15th century; smelting works and forges were located in the area of today’s village square and shaped the town’s development.

With a sports field, soccer field, fire station, community center, and St. Josef Church, Oberhausen boasts a vibrant infrastructure and active gathering places.

Oberhausen combines half-timbered architecture, history, and its waterfront location to create a place with a special atmosphere in the Schleiden Valley.
