About 13,000 people live in Schleiden, which covers an area of approximately 122 square kilometers—at elevations ranging from 281 to 620 meters, nestled in a landscape of vast forests, clear streams, tranquil hills, and open valleys. Nearly half of the town’s territory lies within the Eifel National Park—a natural region where nature is allowed to flourish freely and where there is space to breathe deeply.
The town includes the Kneipp spa town of Gemünd and 17 other villages in the Schleiden Valley as well as on the plateaus of the Northern Eifel. Each village brings its own unique perspective—shaped by history, a vibrant community, and a close connection to the landscape. As a regional center with a diverse range of educational opportunities and schools, Schleiden is also a place of youthful perspectives, ideas, and energy.
Here, a conscious shift toward a slower pace meets a spirit of renewal: the tranquility and health-focused approach of the Kneipp spa town meet the dynamism of a vibrant school town. This combination defines Schleiden as a place that bridges tradition and the future.
Schleiden is a place in transition: shaped by nature, cultural heritage, and the experiences of the 2021 flood disaster—yet sustained by solidarity and a clear vision for the future.
Here, nature and culture, tranquility and connection, everyday life and special moments come together.
Just breathe. Truly Eifel.
