Gemünd

The Kneipp spa town of Gemünd combines health, nature, and a vibrant local community. With over 4,000 residents, Gemünd is the largest district of Schleiden and also the town’s tourist hub.

Sebastian Kneipp’s teachings are palpable here: the five pillars—water, exercise, nutrition, medicinal plants, and a healthy lifestyle—shape the understanding of health and invite visitors to live mindfully and find a new sense of balance. Natural water treading on the steps of the Urft River allows visitors to experience this principle firsthand.

Located at the confluence of the Urft and Olef rivers, Gemünd looks back on a long and eventful history—from its Roman origins through its time as a center of trade and industry to its present-day status as a Kneipp spa town. Shaped by change, reconstruction, and a strong sense of community, the town has continued to evolve. Here, a special connection to the landscape is fostered. The spa park, with its bandstand, offers a space for relaxation and socializing—for example, during the spa concerts held every Sunday from May through September, as well as the Friday Concerts. The Kurhaus Gemünd complements these offerings with events and forums, creating a space for exchange and cultural life.

In the lively downtown area, restaurants, specialty shops, and cultural offerings such as the KunstForumEifel come together to create a diverse space for experiences. The Rosenbad also offers space for exercise and leisure. Numerous accommodations—including the Gemünd-Vogelsang Youth Hostel—invite visitors to stay longer and fully experience the region.

From Gemünd, you have direct access to the Eifel National Park. Hiking trails lead into the surrounding countryside all the way to the Urft Dam, allowing you to directly experience the blend of relaxation and activity.
