Literatur im Café mit Elsa Koester
Feb 3, 2026
Schleiden-Gemünd
The plot of the novel leads to the fictional Saxon border town of Grenzlitz. An election campaign is underway. The “Future Greens,” the “Left Pinks,” and the right-wing “Blues” are competing for power in the supposed idyll of the East German province. At times, the struggle is quite intense. The danger that the dispute over concepts, ideas, and perspectives escalates, and that violent factions might have a completely different notion of confrontation, is very real.
Elsa Koester presents themes that could hardly be more relevant in light of a total of five important elections in 2026. In socially and politically turbulent times, “In the Land of Wolves” is an almost necessary contemporary novel for our present. - The blurb for the novel states: “In the Land of Wolves” is a literary border crossing. Authentically and in convincing language, it tells the story of the rising fascism in a small town in the far east of Germany. The blatant threat to our democratic order could hardly be demonstrated more clearly.
