HONGKU KWON "Stille Dialoge" - Malerei und Zeichnung

Jun 28, 2025 - Jun 29, 2025

Schleiden-Gemünd

Art and nature - two worlds that touch, permeate and nourish each other. In nature, we find what is often lost in everyday life: peace. Clarity. Energy. Nature is not just a place to take a deep breath, but a mirror of our innermost being. A silent dialog - often unspoken, but full of meaning - that allows us to meet ourselves again.
For the German-Korean artist Hongku Kwon, the Eifel has a meditative power. Only an hour away from Cologne, he is drawn here again and again. The colorful interplay of water and forests, the gentle balance between light and shadow, are a source of inspiration for him.

He was in Gemünd with his family just a few weeks before the flood. Deeply moved by the tranquillity, he discovered more than just beauty. The Eifel - diverse, lively, sometimes harsh, often gentle - became a place of retreat for him. After the catastrophe, the artist returned - saw traces of destruction, but also signs of cohesion and change. This quiet strength of the people impressed him. And moved him to exhibit right here.

"Silent Dialogues" is a tribute to the Eifel. An artistic dedication to the courage of the people and the inexhaustible power of nature.

Hongku Kwon lives and works in Cologne. His artistic career began in South Korea, where he studied Fine Arts at Chung-Ang University. In 1985, he came to Germany to continue his studies at the renowned Düsseldorf Art Academy under Prof. Erich Reusch and Prof. Nan Hoover. There he became a master student .
In his paintings , man and nature meet - in melancholy moments that radiate inner peace and at the same time a deep nostalgia. Kwon's paintings make the invisible visible: the fleeting, the inconspicuous. His pictures are characterized by powerful colors and contrasts.
Hongku Kwon has exhibited in Europe, South Korea and the USA . His artworks have been shown at the Anthology Film Archives in New York, the Kumho Museum of Art in Seoul and the Städtische Galerie Lüdenscheid, among others. He is currently represented with large works at NordArt .
