Eifelerlebnis: Wandern & Besichtigen & Schifffarth
Jul 31, 2025
Gemünd
The guided hike leads through the "Wild Kermeter" in the middle of the Eifel National Park down to the Urft Dam, an architectural monument from 1905, at the time the largest dam in Europe. Built for flood protection, to supply water to industry on the Rur and to generate energy, today it is also a drinking water reservoir and valuable habitat in the middle of the Eifel National Park. After a visit to the cool interior of the dam wall with its many steps, we stop for lunch. It is possible to stop off at the Urfttalsperre restaurant(https://urftseemauer.de) for a self-paying lunch. The return journey is an almost silent and relaxing boat trip across the Obersee to Einruhr. The many meanders of the Obersee offer wonderful views of the national park and this part of the lake is also known as the "Amazon of the Eifel".
The electric boat takes you to Einruhr via the Rurberg landing stage, from where you return to the bus back to Gemünd after a short rest.
